The Droste Chocolade company traces its roots back to 1863 when a store opened in Haarlem in the Netherlands selling chocolate products. From there it grew into one of the largest chocolate companies in the Netherlands.

The famous Droste Nurse on its tin cans appeared first around 1900 when the company started exported its famous chocolate powder brand around the world. The nurse gave the impression of the wholesomeness of chocolate milk and its image became inseparably bound to the Droste company. The can is also famous for the “Droste Effect”, the nurse in the picture is holding a tray with her own image on it. Which in turn repeats itself again.
