For our regular customers it might have come as a bit of a surprise - last week we have put online the redesigned Hollandwinkel website.
The original design had been around since the early days of the website and was really showing its age. These past few months we have put a lot of energy and time into building a newer and much clearer website.
For us the main priority was to make the website easier to navigate -- you will find both the menu's clearer and our product searchengine much more helpfull.
We hope you enjoy shopping with us, but if you find somewhere for us to improve, do let us know !
Our websites journey around the globe
The Hollandwinkel has been shipping our Dutch products directly from the Netherland since 2002 -- but our webservers journey was far more interesting. We stayed in the Netherlands but our webserver travelled the globe.
The website first powered up in an appartment block somewhere in Taiwan -- with its very own gasoline generator to provide backup power. Just in case a typhoon hit and cut the power. Having survived several tyhoons and even a flooding it moved to the capital Taipei where for many years it had its home in an office building. Safe from most typhoons it now only had to deal with regular earthquakes.
As the website became busier it struck out on its own and found a home in Texas where it lived on green wind energy.
But having sold so many stroopwafels it felt homesick -- it finally moved to its own spot in the Netherlands and is now located in the EvoSwitch datacenter not far from the historical center of Haarlem and the river Spaarne.
